FINALLY, A WIN AT HOME | Canes rout Edmonton

A five-goal 3rd period lifted the Carolina Hurricanes to a 7-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers Friday, snapping the team’s four-game losing streak. Eric Staal’s hat trick included a penalty shot goal, Rod Brind’Amour (pictured, above right, with Tim Gleason) had a three-point night (1g, 2a) and Sergei Samsonov had a goal and an assist for Carolina, which regained the lead in the Southeast Division. Atlanta, which led the division, was routed by Buffalo (losing 10-1 as of this writing).

The Hurricanes hit bottom with Thursday’s loss to Ottawa, so whether this performance was enough to give the team the confidence it so desperately needs remains to be seen…but it sure was fun to watch.
