Today’s List: My Ringtones

1. “Moving in Stereo” – The Cars

“Moving in Stereo” is a song by the 70s/80s New-Wave band The Cars. Even with a “reunion” tour going on (with two of the five former members participating under the moniker of “The New Cars”) the band isn’t well-known to most of today’s hip-hoppers. When my phone rings and the heavy bass-driven chords sound, rarely anyone who hears it has any idea what it is. “Life’s the same, I’m moving in stereo…life’s the same, except for my shoes…” It’s from the band’s self-titled first album, which blew me away as an impressionable 15-year-old in 1978. Still a classic album, which contains my all-time favorite song: “All Mixed Up.”

2. “Need You Tonight” – INXS

Catchy. Not a big INXS fan, but I got it mostly because it was easy to tell when my phone rang.

3. “Whip It” – Devo

Now whip…into shape…shape it up…get it straight… Still somewhat of a fan of Mark Mothersbaugh, the genius behind this very strange band.
