Streak Ends…



The Carolina Hurricanes had earned points in eight straight home games before losing to the New York Rangers, 4-2, tonight in Raleigh. Still, after starting February 1-3, they ended up the month with a 7-5-1 record and play three more home games (including Saturday against Tampa Bay) between now and a week from Saturday.

Rangers’ netminder Henrik Lundqvist was solid, as usual, and pest Sean Avery – who sucker-punched Andrew Ladd earlier in the season – refused to drop the gloves with the Canes’ Scott Walker or Tim Conboy, so it was a frustrating night…

Still, the team remain five points ahead of the Washington Capitals in the NHL’s Southeast Division, but the Caps have three games in hand. Washington plays the hot New Jersey Devils on Friday night.

Carolina controls its fate, though – the team plays nine of its remaining 15 games against divisional opponents…
