‘MAGIC NUMBER’ STILL AT 2Tuesday’s showdown crucial 

Washington’s Alex Ovechkin scored his league-leading 62nd goal to lead the Capitals to a 3-0 win over Florida, and Carolina’s power play – so potent in a 7-1 win Friday – didn’t click as the Canes lost to Tampa Bay Saturday. The keeps Carolina’s “magic number” at two – any combination of two Hurricanes wins or Caps losses puts Carolina in the playoffs.

It also makes Tuesday’s showdown between the two teams in Washington each team’s “game of the year”…a regulation win by Carolina gives the Canes the Southeast Division title. A loss will make things…interesting.
