ROSEY’S TRICK PROPELS CANES | Can clinch division tonight 

Big 6-2 win last night over Tampa Bay, capped by Chad LaRose’s hat trick. The Hurricanes are idle tonight, but clinch the division if this same Tampa Bay team – hopefully mad – can beat Washington.

As the NHL season winds down to its final weekend, here’s how things stand…

EASTERN CONFERENCE
#1 Pittsburgh Penguins (idle) can clinch the Eastern Conference’s #1 seed tonight:
* If Montreal gets no points against Buffalo.
#3 Carolina Hurricanes (idle) can clinch the Southeast Division tonight:
* If Washington gets no points against Tampa Bay.

#4 New Jersey Devils (idle) can clinch the Eastern Conference’s #4 seed tonight:
* If NY Rangers get no points against NY Islanders.
#5 New York Rangers can clinch an Eastern Conference playoff berth tonight:
* If they beat NY Islanders.
or
* If they get one point against NY Islanders and Washington gets one point against Tampa Bay.
or
* If Washington gets no points against Tampa Bay.
#6 Ottawa Senators can clinch an Eastern Conference playoff berth tonight:
* If they beat Toronto and Washington gets one or no points against Tampa Bay.
or
* If they get one point against Toronto and Washington gets no points against Tampa Bay.

WESTERN CONFERENCE
#1 Detroit Red Wings can clinch the Presidents’ Trophy tonight:
* If they get at least one point against Columbus.
or
* If San Jose gets one or no points against Los Angeles.
#3 Minnesota Wild can clinch the Northwest Division tonight:
* If they beat Calgary.
#4 Anaheim Ducks (idle) can clinch the Western Conference’s #4 seed tonight:
* If Dallas gets no points against Phoenix.
#7 Calgary Flames can clinch a Western Conference playoff berth tonight:
* If they get at least one point against Minnesota.
or
* If Nashville gets no points against St. Louis.
or
* If Vancouver gets one or no points against Edmonton.
#8 Nashville Predators can clinch a Western Conference playoff berth tonight:
* If they beat St. Louis and Vancouver gets one or no points against Edmonton.
