Carolina had everything going for it tonight, especially history: Florida hadn’t won in Raleigh since 2002, and the Hurricanes have been stellar at home.
During the game, Carolina also had most everything going for it: the Hurricanes outshot Florida 46-17 and took no penalties to Florida’s nine.
But when the game ended, the Panthers won, 4-3, the back-breaking goal coming on a short-handed tally.
Now the Hurricanes will have to rely on these same Panthers. The Hurricanes’ regular season is over. If Florida beats Washington in regulation in the Capitals’ home finale Saturday, then Carolina is in the playoffs. And with both Boston and Philadelphia both winning tonight, If Washington wins, or takes the game to overtime, the hockey season is over for the Hurricanes.
